California is a wonderful place to visit and one of the great culturally diverse cities it has to offer is San Francisco. From Asian themed plays to African-American art, the city is exploding with cultural goodness. And much of it has yet to be discovered by the masses.
If you’re in San Francisco and looking to expand your horizons, one place you may want to pay a visit to is the Asian-American Theater Company. San Francisco has a large Asian and Pacific Islander (Filipinos) population and it shows up in the performing arts.
This theater is where the Asian-American community shows off their stuff. It’s located at 55 Teresita Blvd. and tickets are reasonable (about $12 – $42).
Another great theater for exploring other cultures is the AfroSolo Theater Company, which is located at 462 Fulton St. A complete experience, the AfroSolo Theater Company is really a celebration of the African-American community through artwork and entertainment.
This theater has many great solo performances. There’s also the AfroSolo Festival that showcases some of the best artists in theater and the arts (photography and music too). The ticket prices vary by show, but they are always affordable (about $15 – $20). If you’d like to explore the African-American community, this would be a great start.
San Francisco is wonderfully diverse. It’s anything but boring. If you love exploring the cultures of others, you’ll be right at home in this fabulous city. There are many other sights for your exploration, but these are two great ones to start with.
